Hatami makes list of "25 Best Female Movie Performances"

Iranian actress Leila Hatami has made the list of the “25 Best Female Movie Performances of the 21st Century” by reputable film website IndieWire.

The list, including actresses such as Isabelle Huppert, Viola Davis, Naomi Watts and Scarlett Johansson,  features the Iranian actress for her role in Asghar Farhadi’s ‘A Separation’.

Hatami is the daughter of renowned Iranian director Ali Hatami and has appeared in a number of her father’s films, even as a child actress, including ‘Hezar Dastan’ (1987), ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’ (1984) and ‘The Devoted’ (1992).

She went to Switzerland and embarked on her studies in electrical engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. Just two years later, she shifted her field of study to French Literature. Hatami returned to Iran in 1996 when her father became ill.

Her first appearance in a leading role was in the film ‘Leila’ (1997).

Hatami has starred in numerous movies and won many prestigious awards throughout her successful career.

Appearing in movies such as ‘Sheida’ (1999), ‘The Deserted Station’ (2002), ‘Season Salad’ (2005), ’40 Years Old’ (2010), ‘A Separation’ (2011) , ‘There Are Things You Don’t Know’ (2011) and ‘The Orange Suit’ (2011) scored the actress nominations of Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Fajr International Film Festival.

In 2012, she was nominated for the Asian Film Award and People's Choice Award at the Asian Film Awards for her role in ‘A Separation’ (2011).
